Grip It Youth Assessment Camp

Grip It offers year round (September to June) climbing programming for youth climbers! All levels are welcome to come try out, whether you have competed before or are just starting to dip your toes in the sport.

Grip It is hosting a 2.5 hour Assessment Camp for all youth (18 and under) athletes interested in climbing on our comp and non-comp teams! Come enjoy climbing supported by our knowledgeable coaches and find out if climbing is for you!

Our programming is set up to meet all youth at their competency level and is designed to support their interest within the sport. At the Assessment Camp, participants can inform our coaches of their desire to compete in the following year or not. Furthermore their abilities level will be assessed and each youth will be placed on a team of climbers at the same level. As the year continues kids may be moved to a more appropriate level to facilitate their growth and help them achieve their goals.

Our 3 levels of teams consist of:

  • Fundamentals - it says it right in the name… these teams are made to be FUN. This non-competitive team is meant to teach you the basics of climbing and build confidence within the sport. Practices are held 1 day a week for FUN1 (a,b,c, d team), and 2 times a week for FUN2. The Assessment Camp is not required for registration on these teams, however it will guarantee you a spot, allowing you to avoid the busy fall registration rush.

  • Developmental - this is the first tier of competition style climbing. Youth here can start to learn the programming and competition requirements of the sport. Training runs 2-3 days a week for our DEV 1, DEV 2 and DEV3 teams. We strongly encourage kids to attend 1-2 comps a year within this group, however it is not a requirement. Comps are held either in house OR in AB/ BC.  Assessment camp is required for this team.

  • Comp Team - this is our top tier elite climbing team. These kids have put in years of work and dedication to be at the top of the sport in the province. Training runs 3 days a week for this team. The Comp Team is required to attend the minimum number of competitions in a season to be eligible for provincials and nationals. Comps are held either in house OR in AB/ BC.  Assessment camp is required for this team.

The 2025/2026 Practice Schedule will be released closer to the Assessment Camp date.
